We produced a series of short films on the Rural Energy Community Advisory Hub for our friends at Ricardo.
We have worked with Ricardo for over a decade on a number of sustainability and energy projects. This particular project was started in 2022 as part of a package of policies by The European Commission to help the EU achieve climate neutral by 2050.
Each film we produced focused on a different energy community, typically led by local citizens, who advocated for an inclusive and decentralised approach to energy. There is a strong emphasis on local involvement in developing and implementing sustainable energy solutions tailored to the specific environmental and resource conditions. For example, this may be solar power in Mediterranean climates and wind power or energy efficiency initiatives in more temperate locales.
This film focuses on The Mountain Community of Renewable Energy (MoRECo) initiative. This is a transformative effort to position the Troodos region as a leading model territory for energy and climate resilience. Aiming to become a non-profit energy cooperative with the active participation of all local energy consumers, MoRECo addresses the unique challenges of Cyprus’ fragile mountain ecosystems while enhancing their capacity to contribute to sustainable development and the country’s overall well-being.
