Dundee United v University of Stirling

Mallard Productions were invited to produce an emotive build-up film to celebrate a hugely impressive sporting achievement for the University of Stirling. The men’s football team reached the fourth round of the Scottish Cup for the first time ever and were drawn against previous cup winners and premiership regulars, Dundee United. The feat was made even more impressive by the fact they were the first student side to reach the last 32 in over 50 years.

Our film crew followed striker Cameron McKinley as he trained and prepared for the big game and mixed in footage we have taken from another match at Stirling Albion’s Forthbank Stadium. We blended cinematic back lighting with our large sensor cameras, but made sure to keep a naturalist and documentary feel throughout the edit. It was vital that the film echoed the anticipation surrounding the game without appearing overly polished. The use of music and sound design was equally important for creating the right tone and feel.

We also produced a ‘news style’ cut featuring interviews with the manager and first team players. Both films were shared on the University’s social media and were part of the marketing strategy to promote the event.
