We were absolutely delighted to see excerpts from our new film Trapped, featured on STV News last week.
Trapped is a harrowing drama based on a culmination of true stories and written by real life victims. The film follows teenager Liv as her life spirals out of control after an encounter with a predatory drug dealer called Cole. It grapples with issues of sex trafficking, exploitation, and drug abuse and was commissioned by the charity I Am Me Scotland.
Directing duties were undertaken by one of our most senior in-house filmmakers and cinematographers (Kyle Littlejohn). It was shot entirely on location using a full complement of Canon cine lenses and the Netflix approved Blackmagic 12K cinema camera. It was really important for us to create something that felt both cinematic and authentic at the same time, so great care was taken with lighting, location, and shot composition.
We were blessed with some fantastic acting talent, and the captivating performance by Kyla Bell in her first leading role was a major asset to the production. The majority of the film is narrated by an internal monologue, written by the real-life Liv and adapted for the screen. The subject matter makes for uncomfortable viewing, but we feel the emotional delivery by the cast holds the viewer’s attention throughout.
We were responsible for location scouting and casting services, production coordination, storyboards, a full production crew, equipment, and complete post production.
Since its release, the film has been screened to youth offenders at Polmont Institute and has been commended for its gritty realism. The goal is to bring awareness and put a stop to the exploitation of young girls who are trapped within this system.
