Italy – Rural Energy Community Advisory Hub

We produced a series of short films on the Rural Energy Community Advisory Hub for our friends at Ricardo.

We have worked with Ricardo for over a decade on a number of sustainability and energy projects. This particular project was started in 2022 as part of a package of policies by The European Commission to help the EU achieve climate neutral by 2050.

Each film we produced focused on a different energy community, typically led by local citizens, who advocated for an inclusive and decentralised approach to energy. There is a strong emphasis on local involvement in developing and implementing sustainable energy solutions tailored to the specific environmental and resource conditions. For example, this may be solar power in Mediterranean climates and wind power or energy efficiency initiatives in more temperate locales.

Selected as a key member of a consortium of expert advisors, Ricardo was appointed to help establish and manage RECAH as a central resource for EU communities aspiring to initiate their own sustainable energy projects.

Over two years, the Rural Energy Community Advisory Hub provided technical support to 90 initiatives across 28 rural energy communities, covering areas like investment opportunities, technological and legal advice, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building. Mallard Productions were involved in filming several different communities and showcasing the work they have done, the challenges they faced, and the benefits that have come from these initiatives.

This film was shot in the municipality of San Michele all’Adige. It is a beautiful area that extends between 228 and 600m above sea level, and includes the main village of San Michele.
