Mallard Productions were approached by the National Health Service (NHS) to create a series of animations that delve into the challenges of perinatal mental health, and highlight the resources available to mothers. The goal was to raise awareness and provide support to women who may be struggling with mental health issues during pregnancy or after giving birth, and to reduce the stigma and fear surrounding this mental health issues. This was an issue that was very close to our hearts and we were very proud to be involved.
We created a suite of videos for this project, encompassing specialist advice, psychological interventions, mother-infant relationship difficulties, and mother and baby units (MBUs). The video showcased on this page is a short excerpt from one of the films we produced.
Perinatal mental health issues affect up to 27% of new and expectant mothers, and covers a wide range of conditions. These may include depression, anxiety disorders, and postpartum psychosis, which usually manifests as bipolar disorder. The NHS’s resources can provide support to mothers who may be affected by these conditions.
Our animation team took great care in producing these, using their 3D expertise to create simplistic yet expressive characters that could effectively convey the wide range of emotions involved in this sensitive topic. We additionally included the link that can provide useful information for partners and support mothers.
We worked closely with the NHS to ensure that the content accurately represented the experiences of women who may be dealing with perinatal mental health issues.
