Mallard Productions have begun production on a documentary charting the long awaited return of the TS Queen Mary to Scotland.
We were commissioned by the Friends of TS Queen Mary, who were formed in 2012 to safeguard the future of the Clyde’s last turbine excursion steamer. The aim is to renew TS Queen Mary and return her to a new permanent berth on the River Clyde. Having spent the last few years of her life stuck down in London, it was quite a task to get her back up to Scotland. We travelled down to England to film the steamer while she was being assessed on how sea worthy she was.
Our coverage included following the steamer as she made her way (slowly) up the west coast of England, Wales and Scotland. We tracked her entire journey via GPS and stationed cameras along the coast to capture the last leg of her journey, including two cameras mounted on boats that tracked and circled the steamer. We also interviewed members of the Friends of TS Queen Mary, including the group’s patron, Robbie Coltrane.
This is just the start of the project as the Friends of Queen Mary need to raise over £2 million to completely restore her and open her up for the public to enjoy.
