Mallard Productions were commissioned by Weber Shandwick to create a promotional video for Urban Union’s Affordable Housing project in the Gorbals, Laurieston Living.
Laurieston Living is one of the four regeneration projects being delivered by Urban Union in Scotland. The project is formed by three phases, and aims to be complete within a 9-year-period.
Urban Union is a regeneration firm that is dedicated to supporting local communities by not only creating properties, but improving the quality of life for those who live in these areas. Through their community benefits programme, individuals can be granted with community based work placements. Urban Union have an extensive apprentice programme, where they work on-site to provide homes to the local area.
We conducting filming on-site, collecting B-roll footage of the in-progress construction work and Laurieston Living apprentices at work, such as operating machinery, scaffolding, and joinery. We ensured to capture footage of some of the completed areas of the site to display the progress so far. We also conducted interviews with the apprentices to understand their roles, their aims for the future, and what the opportunity provided by Urban Union has meant to them.
The apprentices acknowledge the rewarding aspect of their jobs: seeing the site develop from mud to homes for the community. After the completion of this video, Laurieston Living has since won the Scottish Property Awards 2023 Regeneration Project of the Year. The project has been a huge success, and has already provided 537 new homes.
The project is set to be complete by Summer 2026, concluding its efforts to not only provide the comforts and necessities of a new home, but to revitalise the community.
