Talisker – Tri for the Sea

Mallard Productions were invited by Bacchus Agency to capture film and photography for Talisker’s ‘Tri for the Sea’ to raise awareness for Talisker’s ongoing ocean conservation initiatives. Talisker Single Malt Whiskey have collaborated with Parley for the Oceans to launch the campaign ‘Rewild Our Seas’; a global project to help and restore kelp forests and other coastal habitats. Parley are dedicated to raising awareness for the fragility of the oceans, and encourage and empower companies, brands, organisations, governments and more to develop alternative and innovative ways to live on our finite planet.

The event itself saw athletes Ross Edgley, Dame Kelly Holmes and Sir Chris Hoy working together in a relay, using their respective sports to race from Firth the Forth, past Heriot-Watt University, and finally to Cramond Island before the path to access it is cut off by the tide. These three great competitors came together along the Scottish coastline for a high-energy adventure for an urgent and significant cause.

The filming and photography took place at a variety of locations, such as Calypso Marine, Silversands Beach, and Cramond Island. The team already knew the locations well but had recced each one to get the best vantage points prior to filming. We followed both Kelly on her 11.26km run, and Chris on his 15.8km cycle, capturing the exciting and brisk nature of the race. As Ross swam 1.5km in the Firth of Forth, our cinematographer captured footage from a boat alongside, whilst a second operator deployed a drone to track the swimmer from the air.

Once the race was completed our on-site editor quickly turned around an edit to be published on various social media platforms. The film has helped to raise awareness for Talisker’s ongoing effort in ocean conservation initiatives and strong partnership with Parley for the Oceans.
